I currently swim 1-3 times a week – will I be able to fully participate in a camp with lots of pool swims as well as open water swims and other fitness activities?
Absolutely. Practices are designed to accommodate all levels and abilities and will be paced to ensure athletes can fully participate in (and enjoy) all the sessions throughout the week.
How many metres will we swim in practice?
Practices will range in distance from 1000-5000 meters depending on workout goals (aerobic, anaerobic, technique) and ability of swimmers.
What are the benefits of going away to training camp? Why can’t I just swim more meters at home?
#1 reason – because you won’t swim more meters at home! Participating in a training camp abroad allows you to be removed from the distractions of home and log more training hours than you ever thought possible. All this happens while having the time to rest, recover, eat healthy and gain the benefits of fresh coaching perspectives and group momentum of like-minded and motivated athletes.
The Canadian National Swim Team regularly undertakes training abroad for these very reasons.
What should I bring to camp?
Upon registration we will send you a list of anything you might need to maximize your Freestyle Experience camp experience. We do ask that when possible, swimmers bring their own kick board and pull buoy, and any other equipment they use regularly in practice (paddles, fins).
